Welcome to A Bed and Breakfast in the Berkshires! Enjoy our serene mountain and valley views 3 1/2 miles from Tanglewood and Hancock Shaker Village. Enjoy a quiet walk in our wildflower meadow to the top of the hill where you can look out onto Lenox Mountain and Perry Peak. Or choose your favorite spot: the hammock in the orchard, a table under the golden locust trees, on the screened in porch, or in a chair circled by mock orange blooms under the grape arbor.
The peonies, lupines, iris, and daisies of our perennial borders are in flower all season, tempting artists and photographers to capture the spirit. Or you might just want to nestle with a book next to the roses. Bicyclists know our quiet country lane arched by majestic trees, our excellent maps, and expert advice.
The glorious sounds of Tanglewood are just up Lenox Road during July and August. The musicians drawn to it continue their music year-around in a variety of groups and settings including the South Mountain Concerts, Close Encounters with Music, Berkshire Jazz and Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.
The Berkshire Theater Group, the Williamstown Theater Festival, and Shakespeare & Co. will delight theater buffs. World famous Hancock Shaker Village, just up our road, is given three stars in the Michelin Guide, meaning worth a trip all by itself! Also you must visit Norman Rockwell Museum, Berkshire Botanical Garden, Chesterwood, MASS MoCA, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival! We can help you figure out what to do based on your own personal priorities. You will have to come back again and again to explore all the cultural attractions.
Homemade bread and jam for breakfast along with crepes, Belgian waffles or blueberry pancakes are among the home-baked specialties we serve for breakfast, along with fresh fruit. You will have a hard time choosing among homemade spiced peach, apple butter, wild fox grape jelly, blackberry and strawberry jam. Complimentary afternoon tea is available when you wish. And for dinner and lunch, there are scores of excellent restaurants just a few miles from our property. We collect the latest menus in a book for your use. If you are going to Tanglewood, we recommend taking a picnic that you can buy there or on the way.
In the winter, cross-country skiing is right out the door, downhill skiing ten minutes away, with four major ski resorts within a half hour’s drive. In the summer, there are many swimming areas and bicycling, canoe, and sailing rentals available. The restorative resources for your body and spirit of Kripalu are just over the hill and Canyon Ranch just a bit further.
Bird watchers from the Audubon Society come to watch our bluebirds; while I am writing there are five baby bluebirds in the nearest box right now. We frequently also have purple finches, pileated woodpeckers, scarlet tanagers, goldfinches, and white crowned and white throated sparrows and wood thrushes. Swallows, both rough winged and tree, northern orioles and cardinals have nested here. Our guests are thrilled by the hummingbirds coming to the border next to the porch. And the hummingbirds sometimes squeak with surprise when they see you.
Our library of books and our piano in the guest living room will provide our guests with pleasure. Guest bedrooms have queen or king beds, handmade quilts (one by my grandmother), down pillows and comforters, fresh flowers, antiques, private baths, as well as potpourri from our own gardens, candy, magazines, cable television (hidden in case you prefer our peace and quiet), fans, individual heat and air conditioners in season for your pleasure. We look forward to your visit!
